Let's make a book
What's up fools? Copying and pasting from my Facebook:
I was reading a graphic novel called Flight yesterday. I've had it for a long time, but decided to pick it up again. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a collection of illustrated short stories from various artists. Some are amazing, and some are well... let's say it got me thinking, "hell, me and my friends could do this easy". It's not a new idea, we've talked about it before at various times, but never really followed up on it.
A couple of months ago I came across this site called www.blurb.com. It's basically a site for creating your own books, which, if you so choose, you could also publish. My brother and I used it to create a photo album of our trip to Asia earlier this year. It was simple, cheap and very efficient. It's free to create the book, and then you can order as many or as few as you like. Prices are very reasonable for what you get, and the range of binding and size options are impressive. Anyhow, I got to thinking... if even a handful of my friends got together to put it together, we could have a book in no time. I figure if each artist dedicated themselves to 12 pages (6 pages front and back), at 2 pages a month, we could have a book in 6 months. I say 2 because it's achievable, and I know that you're all very busy. You guys are so talented though, and I've seen what you can do when applying it to your work. I can only imagine what you could produce for something that is close to your heart. I know you guys all have ideas rolling around in your heads and personal projects you've always meant to get around to, so I thought this would be a nice opportunity to make it happen. Ideally, we could meet one night every month to give feedback and support and check on our progress.
If you're interested, please let me know, as I'd like to get things rolling while I'm inspired. In the meantime check out these links:

IMC Final Project
It's been a while but I've been busy:) Here's the final barring any tweaks...
The illustration is from a design brief for a book called Green by Jay Lake that is due to be published soon by Tor books. Dan Dos Santos has the honor of illustrating the real cover and it's a beauty. I'm fortunate enough to have had some great input from Dan, Scott Fischer, Greg Manchess, Donato, Boris and Julie, and the rest of the IMC alumni of 2008. Thanks all! I could not have progressed as far as I did without your help and encouragement!
Medium: Digital and Oil on Panel

Life Drawing - 25min poses
I had a pretty good morning at life drawing Saturday. I threw away a few disasters but salvaged some lessons from today's experience.
I'm beginning to utilize some of the advice of Richard Schmid from his book Alla Prima in identifying edges and blocking in values while also incorporating line drawing to identify my proportions and add some flourish here and there.

I Did Arts at Home Also, Too
Cover illo for the May issue of Sports Northwest Magazine. For those not in the know, it's supposed to be NBA Commissioner David Stern wrecking our fair town in his attempt to swipe the Supersonics.
I agree that it's lame to post nothing for 43 straight months, and then when I finally do post something, it's way off topic.

uh..C-Viper?
Lets pretend that this is a whole-cast, EPIC street fighter collage, and its painted as good as Arnold Tsang's.
And lets pretend this I even know anything about this character, and this wasnt just an excuse to draw 'da ladies.

Late Dune entry.. Sorry!
sorry it took so long guys. no colour on this pic. i'm still trying different styles of drawing.. so bare with me. don't really know where i wanna go with my own style. but if you have more artist recommendations .. i would love to see their sites..
this drawing is aptly named No More Spice.. its a priestess from dune w/ her hands open.. i wanted to pour water from her hands.. but i'm bad at sketching water. the priestess's really creep me out... especially the little sister that talks with a husky voice and knows way too much..

Zombie Pug
I started designing a zombified Pug for a HL2 mod that I used to help out with couple of years ago. It was fun to play around with taking a cute pug and turning him into a muscle bound, slightly confused, man eating, cyclops dog with a bit of creepy appeal. I'll probably noodle with the body some more before moving on to the model and textures.

Here is my month late Dune challenge picture. My Feyd doesn't look like Sting but this is all I could muster with little time and almost no references. Enjoy!

03/17/2008 Weekly(ish) Challenge: Street Fighter
All right, nice work on the Dune pieces ya'll. I think we could start production on the new movie adaptation - Dune-Song of the Atreidies: The Musical. Maybe we could get the remaining members of REO Speedwagon and Toto on board to provide the soundtrack. Awesome to the maxx!
Okay maybe not. Anyway, on to the present challenge - Street Fighter! I know some of you will be all over this in a heartbeat. Let's give ourselves a couple of weeks for this one. Why the extra time? Well, oddly enough this challenge just happens to coincide with the deadline for submissions to the Street Fighter Art Tribute book:
http://www.udonentertainment.com/blog/?p=87
Read the rules for qualification. Otherwise do whatever you want:) Deadline is March 30th.

Ok let's up the ante a little. I wanna see some kitten feeding Baron Harkonnen action. Or how about your take on the Navigators? Or sting in a steel g-string. "I *WILL* KILL HIM!". Who's up for the challenge?

Marooned WIP
Arrgg... I'm so far behind on this stuff. I'm working on a book cover that falls under this category however, with a newborn in the house I'm lucky if I get an hour or two in the evenings to get into this. In the meantime I've been capturing the process using Camtasia and posting on youtube. Someday I'll finish it!
